Ruling Class
02:14
|
|||
some day you'll find me in the pages of the glossy rags
poolside baby with the ruling class
looking so serene so severe making all the scenes
outfitted in the latest designer fashion haute couture
contemptuous and pure
medicated and perfected, color corrected, disinfected
judging all that I survey
and aristocrat and play
far from the noise and the squalor of the common man
tucked in to supple leather seats behind tinted glass
cause all that really matters, all that really makes it worthwhile
living in this hall of mirrors is the
numbers in your bank account
not the sermon on the mount
people fuss and moan and worry
try to find a purpose, try to find a meaning
but the truth in any age
is that poverty is a cage
is a cage
don't lock me away

Freedom Bridge
02:38
|
|||
johnny came home from Afghanistan
fundamentally a different man
uneasy in civilian life
a stranger to his loving wife
and suffering from wounds no-one could see
the VA diagnosed PTSD
said "thank you for your service, son"
smiled and sent him home with some
valium and pamphlets he could read
oh steady on, oh steady on
you're not alone john just hold on

Name Tag
03:02
|
|||
despite the odds, survived my youth
now I don't know what I'm meant to do
I'm half formed and overdone
I'm not yet what I could become
stuck in flux and held in between
I'm a future has been human being
on a fast track bullet train to oblivion
I should be out looking for ways
to earn my keep, a job that pays
oh but it's no fun in the modern age
working for minimum wage
there's a big bright future for me
in entry level service industries
when I die I want to be buried with my name tag on
when I wake up in the mornings now
well I've got no place to be
no-one is counting on me to pull through
but I'm anything but free
I guess I need some direction
other than down
I've gotta find something to turn my mind to
if I'm gonna make it out of here alive
should be out looking for ways
to earn my keep, a job that pays
oh but it's no fun in the modern age
working for minimum wage
there's a big bright future for me
in entry level service industries
when I die I want to be buried with my name tag on

Fault Lines
03:23
|
|||
you got off to a shaky start
fault lines running all through your heart
the little things bring you tumbling down
but you ought to not let them all push you around
try all you want, you're not fooling me
the pain in your heart is as plain as it can be
it's a juggernaut reality
and it's crashing through your little porcelain dreams
if you don't learn to let go
it's gonna fill your soul
til it overflows, overflows
spread my love out like a safety net
underneath your high wire act
that way, darling should you ever fall
well you won't have very far to go at all
if you don't learn to let go
it's gonna fill your soul
til it overflows
like a river in torrential rain
sadness rising over the banks
then you're caught up in the current
and you're too far gone to save
and you are just too dear to me
to see you carried away
